The square plays with circles

And likes it very much
The circles love him too
For his corners and as such

After many days of playing
The circles call him home
The square is so delighted
As though he’s off to Rome!

He reaches circles’ house
With a bunch of lovely flowers
But finds he cannot enter
Without supernatural powers!

The door is so, so round
And he so very square
What mismatch of dimensions

Can’t even enter the foyer!

He bends, and rolls and turns a ton
Poor square is very sad
He is out, his friends are in

It makes him really mad

“Best to cut your corners, square”

The circles tell their friend

“But that will hurt me way too much

And my own shape will end!”

The circles are dismayed

They don’t know what to do

They talk and talk and talk

And wish they knew voodoo

Then suddenly, it strikes them –
The door is out of range!

Oh why didn’t they think of this?
Their friend must not change!

So they chip out four corners

Now square can make it in

Everybody squeals with joy
My goodness, what a din!

Realization

Do you think I know what I am doing!

For a breath I know
For another I don’t!
A pen knows not what it is writing
A ball in the hands of a child can’t guess
Where it’s going next
At times I am the pen, the ball
At others, the hands that hold them!
